| Every
Christmas people will have to choose between using the old plastic tree or buying
a natural fresh tree. Buying a real Christmas tree has several
advantages: - while being grown the normal life cycle
of a Real Christmas Tree will absorb carbon dioxide and produce life giving oxygen
- when
replanted it will benefit the environment and in a small way help the world to
prevent global warming
- because Real Christmas Trees are
continually being bought and replanted they will help to replenish the trees and
forests destroyed each year.
The farms that grow Real
Christmas Trees help in many ways to enhance the environment and can prevent soil
erosion, give protection and homes to wild life and create a picturesque landscape. Plastic
or artificial Christmas trees cannot be recycled and will remain for centuries
after disposal in land fill sites. Real Christmas trees if
not replanted are biodegradable and can still benefit the environment when used
as mulch or to provide nutrients for garden plants. The case
for buying Real Christmas Trees each Xmas is overwhelming and nothing will take
the place of a naturally grown tree with its unique fragrance and natural beauty.
Caring for a Real Christmas Tree
1. Choose the coolest part of the room away from direct heating or radiators
2. To ensure the tree stays in an upright position add ballast of rocks or pebbles
to the selected container. 3. Water frequently but only enough to keep the
roots moist (if present). Don't over water. 4. A Real Christmas Tree should
not be kept inside for more than 10 days if you intend to transplant.
Tip: Introduce the Christmas Tree into a warm home gradually,
perhaps leave for 2 days in garage. If you have
bought a Christmas Tree without roots you will need to take extra care to minimise
needle loss. 1. Ask your supplier for a water holding stand. 2.
Top up the container until water intake stops. 3. Ensure the base is always
in water. If the tree dries out it will restrict the intake of water. 4.
You can use tap water and recommended additives. (Ask supplier) 5. If you
decorate with lights check all electrical cables and plugs for wear. Unplug every
night. 6. Use small wattage lamps to reduce the heat and lessen the chance
of the tree drying out. 7. Check the water level in the container every day. Tip: Introduce
the Christmas Tree into a warm home gradually, perhaps leave for 2 days in garage. Go
